We’re not saying too much more, but he has a role to play. We’re most excited about having Miles Morales in there because he’s just such a great character, and he lets us show a different side of Peter that hasn’t really been explored very much. Giving them a whole playground of Marvel’s New York City, this concrete jungle with Marvel stories sprinkled throughout the whole thing. We want to give players this really big toolbox - you can traverse, use webs, use the environment, use gadgets, use your agility - to get through all these situations. Also Peter’s this brilliant guy who builds amazing technology, so he has these awesome gadgets he can use too. No other character has webbing, so that’s a big thing to make sure he’s using. He’s not a big brawler, he’s nimble, he’s using the environment, pulling scaffolding down, using his webs on stuff. The second aspect is, Spider-Man has to do Spider-Man things, whether that’s being stealthy and taking down enemies, or if it’s in combat being an acrobatic improviser who can flip around and dodge attacks. Webs stick to buildings, which is physics-based, but you can use parkour and wall-running, so you’ve got to nail that too. It has to be skill-based, but it also has to be intuitive, it has to be fast. You can free-roam across New York, and traversal has to be awesome - it has to feel amazing to be Spider-Man. In gameplay, what are the things that make players feel like they’re Spider-Man?įirst thing, you’ve got to have this amazing open-world city to swing around in. He’s a great villain character for Spider-Man because of that, and hasn’t been fully explored in other media at this point. Having that relationship where Peter knows Martin, and Spider-Man has to deal with Mister Negative really adds a lot. The best Spider-Man stories are the ones where Peter and Spider-Man’s worlds collide. Peter has a relationship with Mister Negative’s alter-ego Martin Li, a philanthropist who runs these homeless shelters where Aunt May works. I think it’ll be a lot of fun for folks to meet him. Peter’s having a lot of trouble juggling being Spider-Man, having a job, paying his rent (he’s got an eviction notice on his apartment in the trailer), and he’s thinking maybe he can back off on Spider-Man and start dealing with his personal life.īut Mister Negative is the biggest threat he’s faced and will challenge him in ways that prove to him that the city really does need Spider-Man. In the story of the game, Peter has been Spider-Man for eight years, he’s taken down the Kingpin who’s been his nemesis for that whole time, and he’s thinking he can lessen out his Spider-Man duties and start to live his life a little bit more.
